As the 2024 Olympics came to a close, more gold medals got handed out. ​​As the climax of winning Olypmic gold is so high, it has spectators wondering how much athletes get paid to win a gold medal for their country. And while it is different for every country many controversial opinions have surfaced on the internet. What is too much? And what is too little? Many say these athletes dedicate their lives to training and deserve compensation because the Olympics only happen every 4 years. Others say that the athletes should be content enough with no payment because winning gold is the biggest accomplishment an athlete could have. Well, let’s look into what some Olympic gold medalists get paid for winning gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics.


The United States pays $38,000 for each gold medal an athlete gets, while Hong Kong pays $780,000 to athletes who win gold. Some countries like Australia only pay $10,000, and many others range in between. Not all countries just offer cash for gold medal-winning athletes. Some countries like the Philippines and Khaststan will give houses, Apartments or free health care. Philippines gold medal gymnast Carlos Yulo won gold for his floor routine and won a fully furnished house worth a whopping USD 415,000 as well as USD 120,000 cash, free ramen for life as well as many more compensations.
