Last Chance

Former Heisman winner and former 1st round draft picked signed by the Memphis Express of the AAF.

Heisman Trophy quarterback Johnny Manziel was one of the most polarizing athletes in recent memory. Johnny burst onto the scene in 2012 at Texas A&M where he was given the nickname “Johnny Football”. Dominating in his freshmen year, doing things such as leading the SEC in rushing as a quarterback with a HUGE statement at #1 ranked and national powerhouse The University of Alabama. He later went on to win the Heisman trophy that same season becoming only the second freshman to ever win the award. At this point Johnny was without doubt one of the most popular athletes in all of sports.

Manziel went on to be a 1st round pick(22nd overall) of the dysfunctional at the time Cleveland Browns in 2014. With very limited success, inconsistency on the field, a lack of winning and overshadowing off the field distractions Johnny Football was released by the Browns after the 2015 season. After dealing with some personal issues off the field Johnny seemed like he was back on the right path and signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and later played for the Montreal Alouettes where he was ultimately released and kicked out of the CFL for a breach of contract. Yikes Johnny.

Now, Johnny has signed with the AAF, for the Memphis Express who are plagued by injuries at the quarterback position. Johnny will for sure draw a lot of fan interest to the new league as people are excited to see him playing in the states again. This brings about the question is this Johnny’s last chance to show a team that he can be a true Franchise Quarterback? Are players with the cachet e such as a Johnny Manziel great for the AAF because of the fan interest in will generate? Will you tune in and watch? Should Colin Kaepernick also join the league to show teams he can still play? #NextBigThing Written by: Shannon Johnson
